DEFINITION
This is a responsible skilled position involving the maintenance, repair, and diagnosis of malfunctions of the period lighting, heating and air conditioning, plumbing, and electrical facilities of the Borough of Shippensburg, as well as assisting with the maintenance and repair of the Borough's traffic light system.
An employee in this position is assigned to the Maintenance Department of the Borough of Shippensburg and works more or less independently. Assignments are outline in general terms and checked periodically by the Foreman.
KNOWLDEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of plumbing, heating, air conditioning and electrical maintenance
Knowledge of phone systems
Ability to locate underground cables, electric wires for PA One Call
Ability to diagnose and correct malfunctions in heating and air conditioning systems, plumbing, and electrical systems.
Ability to keep abreast of new methods and procedures used in the service of the above mentioned systems.
Ability to work independent of a supervisor
Ability to work indoors and outdoors under adverse conditions.
Ability to learn and apply operating and maintenance procedures for electronic and computer controlled equipment.
Willingness to attend schools and seminars.
EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING
High school diploma and two (2) years minimum experience in the field of service maintenance. Specialized training in electrical and electronics is preferred or any acceptable equivalent combination of experience and training.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Possession of a valid Class B or Class A Pennsylvania motor vehicle operator's license.
Must be insurable by the Borough's vehicle insurance carrier.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED
Maintains heating and air conditioning systems in Borough owned facilities.
Maintains plumbing and electrical systems in Borough owned facilities.
Assists in maintaining the Borough's traffic light system.
Maintains accurate records of the systems under their control.
Maintains the period lights with the Borough.
Maintain parking meters.
Assist in the ground maintenance of Borough Properties.
Paints street markings.
Assist in the maintenance of Memorial Park pool.
Maintains park buildings.
Serves as crew leader when others are assigned to them.
Performs related tasks and, at times, unrelated work, as required.
Informs supervisor of preventive maintenance issues and/or issues that need to be addressed.
