WASTEWATER SYSTEMS MANAGER

The Borough of Shippensburg seeks applicants for the position of Wastewater Systems Manager.  Minimum qualifications include: current Pennsylvania Class B,E, Subclass 1, 2 & 4 Wastewater Systems Operator’s License; a minimum of 5 years of experience with wastewater operations; operation experience with a wastewater facility of at least 1MGD;  valid Class B Pennsylvania Driver’s License; high school and college degree required.

Successful candidate for this full-time, exempt position will be responsible for administration and operation oversight of the public wastewater system, including some technical/field work related to facility operations, as well as Inflow and Infiltration, Pretreatment and “Class A” Bio-Solids program. This position will be required to respond to occasional call outs and emergency work and attend monthly meetings as needed.  Successful candidate must pass complete background investigation including reference, employment, criminal, driving, personal records check and pre-employment drug screening test.  Successful candidate must reside within 25 minutes of the Borough of Shippensburg.

The Shippensburg Borough public wastewater system includes 7,670 EDUs and serves approximately 17,400 people within Cumberland and Franklin Counties, including Shippensburg University students and staff.   The wastewater treatment facility is a multistage activated sludge BNR facility capable of treating up to 4.3 MGD.  An extensive upgrade is nearly complete which will increase capacity to 4.95 MGD and implement an Integrated Fixed Film Activated Sludge process, complete with full SCADA monitoring and control.  Shippensburg also manages a “Class A” Bio-solids processing facility, including land application for agricultural utilization.  The wastewater system covers a geographical area that includes 23.03 miles of lines within the Borough of Shippensburg and a vast area controlled by the CFJMA (Cumberland Franklin Joint Municipal Authority) to include Orrstown Borough; Southampton Township, Cumberland County; Southampton Township, Franklin County; Letterkenny Township; the Village of Mongul and the Village of Leesburg.

WATER SYSTEM OPERATIONS MANAGER

The Borough of Shippensburg seeks applicants for the position of Water System Operations Manager.  Minimum qualifications include: current Pennsylvania Class A, E, Subclass 1-14 Water Operators License; 5 years of experience with water operations.  Valid Class B Pennsylvania Driver’s License; high school and college degree required.

Successful candidate for this full-time, exempt position will be responsible for administration and operation oversight of the public water system.  This position will be required to respond to occasional call outs and emergency work and attend monthly meetings as needed.  Successful candidate must pass complete background investigation including reference, employment, criminal, driving, personal records check and pre-employment drug screening test.  Successful candidate must reside within 25 minutes of the Borough of Shippensburg.

The Shippensburg Borough Authority’s public water system serves approximately 6,200 customers and an estimated population of 17,000 persons in Cumberland and Franklin Counties. Drinking water currently provided by Shippensburg comes from the Gunter Valley Water Treatment Plant that is fed from a surface water reservoir and is capable of 1,600,000 gallons per day, and three groundwater wells. Shippensburg has seven finished water storage facilities, four booster stations, and eleven pressure regulating valve stations.  The Authority owns approximately 150 miles of distribution system piping.
