Message from the Mayor

Welcome to historic Shippensburg settled in 1730, and having the distinction of being the second oldest permanent settlement in Pennsylvania west of the Susquehanna River.

Shippensburg is recognized as one of the best small towns in America. It is a progressive borough willing to invest in new technologies and programs designed to enhance the quality of life for its citizens.

From Little League Boys and Girls championship ball teams to the Amazing Maize Maze Shippensburg continues to march forward to new adventures.

Annually people from the area can take part in the Shippensburg Fair held the last full week of July and the Corn Festival [a main street event] the last Saturday of August, Dickens Days [leading into the Christmas season], and the First Night anchor dropping New Year’s Eve. Parades, sporting events, festivals, and other activities fill out the year.

Shippensburg University is located just outside the borough limits in Shippensburg Township. It is a valuable asset to the area and provides access to many cultural and educational events. Borough residents’ benefit from annual events held there. The H. Ric Luhrs Cultural Arts Center provides the area with top of the line entertainment.

Shippensburg is centrally located between the major population centers of the Mid-Atlantic region. Washington, New York, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh are all within several hours driving distance, and we’re only a short trip away from the Maryland, Delaware, and New Jersey beaches.

Visit our town and see what we have to offer. You might be pleasantly surprised and decide to stay.

Sincerely,

Bruce W. Hockersmith
Mayor
